Netflix: How to change the language

10/22/2020 by Beatrice Predan-Hallabrin

Netflix is available in many, many countries – and thus also in many languages. You can easily change the primary language of your Netflix account. Just follow our step-by-step instructions.

How to change the primary language of Netflix on your desktop

If you want to change the primary language you use on the streaming platform, it’s important to know that it can’t be done directly on your TV. You have to use your computer or your smartphone. This is how you change your primary language on Netflix, using your computer:

If you want to change the primary language you use on the streaming platform, it’s important to know that it can’t be done directly on your TV. You have to use your computer or your smartphone. This is how you change your primary language on Netflix, using your computer:

  1. Open the Netflix website

Open the Netflix website in a browser and sign in to your account.

  2. Click the little arrow near your profile picture

If you see the overview site of your account (showing TV shows and movies), click the little arrow in the upper right corner, near your profile picture.

  3. Select “Manage profiles”

In the dropdown menu, select “Manage profiles”. You will get to a site showing all available profiles. If you don’t see the overview, but the site showing the profiles instead (“Who’s watching?”), then simply click the “Manage profiles” button.

  4. Click the edit symbol

Go to your profile and click the edit symbol (it looks like a pencil).

  5. Select a language from the dropdown menu

On the “Edit Profile” page, go to “Language” and select a language from the dropdown menu.

  6. Click “Save”

Click “Save” at the bottom of the page.

How it works on mobile

Changing the primary language on mobile is similar to changing it on your computer. Switching to another language is not possible in the Netflix mobile app, so you will have to do it in a mobile bowser of your choice.

  • Open Netflix in a mobile browser and sign in.
  • Type https://www.netflix.com/LanguagePreferences in the URL text field.
  • You’ll see a list of languages. There, you can select the display language and also the language you want to watch the movies and shows in.
  • When you’ve finished, scroll down and click “Save”.
To change the language on your phone, you also have to access the Netflix website via your mobile browser. (c) Screenshot

As soon as you have followed these steps you can start inviting your friends to a “Netflix and Chill” evening.
