The Snipping Tool for Windows from Microsoft is a practical tool.
So the big question that comes to our mind is:
Is Snipping Tool available on Mac?
Sadly, it does not work on Mac OS X. But Apple also has a number of tools which help you create screenshots on your Mac or Macbook. So the next question resulting from this is:
What is equivalent to Snipping Tool on a Mac?
- Without installing another tool you can always take a screenshot on your Mac by pressing [CMD] +[Shift] +[4]. (For generally taking screenshots on your Mac, see our article "How to take a screenshot on your MacBook")
- A full alternative to the snipping tool from Microsoft is the screenshot tool Snagit, which you can test out for free for 30 days. After the trial version ends, you have to purchase the software for about $50, if you want to keep using Snagit.
- Another alternative is Greenshot. It is open source software, so you don't have to pay for it. You can edit and export your screenshots in various ways with Greenshot.
- With Lightshot you can easily highlight and edit your screenshots. Lightshot has a very intuitive user interface, which makes taking screenshots a piece of cake.
