How to Delete a Discord Server

02/01/2023 by Nadine Noppinger

Deleting a Discord server is a straightforward process that can be completed in a matter of minutes. Whether you’re the server owner or an administrator, you can delete the server and all its data with just a few clicks. In this article, we’ll go through the steps to delete a Discord server and provide some tips for safeguarding your data.

Steps to Delete a Discord Server

  1. Log in to the Discord website.
  2. Go to the server you want to delete.
  3. Click on the server settings.
  4. Select the “Delete Server” option.
  5. Confirm your decision by clicking on “Delete Server.”

Note: Only the server owner and administrators can delete a server. If you’re an administrator but not the server owner, you’ll need to transfer ownership before you can delete the server.

Consider these Steps before Deleting

  1. Transfer ownership: If you’re an administrator but not the server owner, you’ll need to transfer ownership to someone else before deleting the server. This ensures that the server remains accessible to its members even after you’ve deleted it.
  2. Notifications: Notify your server members that the server will be deleted and provide them with an alternative way to stay in touch. You can do this by sending a message to the server or by sending a direct message to each member.
  3. Alternative servers: If you’re deleting a server because you’re moving to a new one, make sure to provide your members with the details of the new server, so they can join.
  4. Deleted data: After deleting a server, all the data associated with it will be permanently deleted, and there is no way to restore it. So, it’s important to consider the consequences of deleting a server before taking any action.

In conclusion, before deleting a Discord server, make sure to back up important data, transfer ownership if necessary, notify your members, provide alternative servers, and consider the consequences of deleted data.
